I can find myself feeling very anxious and scared about what’s going on in our country and world right now. If you are anything like me, and you're reading this so I know you are, you are feeling some of the angst as well. We're highly sensitive and very empathetic. Of course, we are picking up on all this fear energy! Regardless of your politics, you’re likely affected by the energetics of the uncertainty and chaos that is prevalent.

Then, there's the desire to stay informed but not wanting to get sucked into the pervasive energies. I want to know what's going on and not be accused of burying my head in the sand. Here are some tips for staying informed and keeping your sanity!

1. Consciously choose your source for news.

It's time to be very choosy about which media outlets you tune into on a regular basis. While you want to stay conscious of what’s going on in the world, you don’t want to feel bombarded with headlines every moment of the day.

One way you can do this is by skipping the traditional news networks and watching more satirical and humorous news shows. These types of programming can provide all the information you need, but in a more humorous way. As a result of being able to take in the information in that more relaxed way, it's easier to feel more connected and entertained while staying updated.

While what is going on isn't really funny and trivial, I find it much easier to hear about the issues from a calmer messenger who doesn’t get me all riled up. We may be powerless over many of these issues, but we can control how we choose to hear and how we react to it.

Please people – research everything you see on social media! Unfortunately, there are many who love to fuel the frenzy by posting false information. Perform due diligence and research the truth of something before you take it in and share it.

2. Choose the number of times per day you desire to take in news

I find it very overwhelming energetically and spiritually to be hit with news 24/7. Perhaps you choose to stop news alerts from popping up on your phone and instead check the news when you feel called. Consciously carve out some time each day to tune in when you know you have the time and mental energy for it.

This might mean you have to take a little social media break! Maybe your Facebook feed is bombarding you with information or Twitter is out of control.

The choice is yours. My desire is to help you become more conscious of how the news of the world is affecting your energy as a Highly Sensitive Woman/Man. I’m not telling you to be an Ostrich and bury your head in the sand. I do believe it’s important to stay informed and engage when you feel led.

Do your part to stay informed, but do so in a way that doesn't drain you or make you feel helpless.

3. Set boundaries with others

Choose to have a “Politics Free” gathering. Set the boundary that politics/news topics are “off the table”. Commit to connecting and relaxing in joy while you are spending time together.

I’ve found that this has helped me to navigate these times. I am able to stay informed while also protecting my energy so I am able to be fully present every day.

Remember, your energy is sacred. Protect it.

4. Cleanse your Facebook feed

Sometimes, I find my feed on Facebook to be overwhelmingly negative and that isn't good for my energy. The “Hide Post” and “Unfollow” buttons have become a best friend. I certainly do not want to control what others post on their timelines but I can control what I choose to see and engage. I can “unfollow” without unfriending someone. If I want to check in on them, I simply go to their page.

This allows me to stay connected to all I desire to be connected to but control what I see from them. Remember, just because someone posts something doesn't mean you must see it and take it in!

Please note: I am not as well versed in Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media outlets so I cannot speak to how you could cleanse those feeds.
